CTD Handling Systems

Caley Ocean Systems has built Conductivity, Temperature and Depth (CTD) Rosette handling systems for many years. The systems are based on SMART winch technology developed by Caley specially for the CTD market.  As well as eliminating the cost and complexity of traction winches systems, these winches provide fully active heave compensation and, when used in conjunction, with the range of complimentary SMART docking heads, ensure that sample integrity is maintained until the CTD rosette is safely inboard.

Safety is paramount in the design of Caley CTD handling systems. The systems are designed for single operator operation, allowing them to control the deployment and the recovery of the CTD without the involvement of other crew in the recovery of the CTD. The Caley CTD Handling System has motion compensation built in to cancel out the roll and pitch of the ship, significantly reducing the swaying of the CTD system. This enables a much smoother and safer CTD deployment and recovery.
